V Idiot - Yes, thank you. All of my copies are on CDs too, but I don't have the actual 2013/2014 WT diskettes. So I was just wondering if they had upgraded.

i had one two weeks ago, i'm fine.
but how nice it was not to lift anything over.
10 pounds.
I had two hernia operations on the same side. The first one was a straight stitch-up. After about five years, the damn thing popped out again. Went to a different doctor (different cities and insurance plans). He did a nice job and used the mesh. Unfortunately, I found out that the mesh he used is made by the same company that is paying for all those lawsuits - but they are specifically for women, except in extreme cases. The problem is that I have to prove that my doctor used that specific mesh, that specific application, etc.
Men are treated a bit differently. If you are a couch potato, or retired and do not hold regular employment, etc. then there are a lot of hoops you have to jump through. Is it causing me pain? No. Is it restricting my sexual activity? What's that? Do I have a job or participate in an activity that requires climbing, lifting or stair climbing. No.
I'm 72, retired - sit in front of a computer 2/3 of my time and a TV the rest. The only real exercise I get is when the Oregon football team scores a touchdown and I jump up and down acting like a fool for 5 minutes. The only thing I lift frequently is my coffee mug and my wine glass.
BTW - when they do that operation you have an excuse to not do chores for at least a week - so it's not all bad.

Does anyone know if they are still using CDs or are they now using DVDs?

this may sound like a silly question, but do jws even door-knock any more?
the few i know only speak of "manning the cart" at some public location, and because they get defensive if i even ask an innocent question like this i thought i'd ask it on the forum.
thanks!.
My house is obviously marked. My office is in the front with a big picture window. They can see me sitting at my desk and still just pass me by. But they only hit this neighborhood about once a year - and on Memorial week and if there is a district assembly being held at the fairgrounds.

watchtower literature often depicts individuals praying with their hands clasped together or kneeling on the ground in their bedroom.. but i don't recall ever seeing a jw praying like that.
i have never seen a jw praying in a kneeling position or with hands clasped together.
have you?.
Jehovah's Witnesses have always (at least since the 1950s) simply stood up or stayed seated and bowed their heads and closed their eyes (except those who are peeking around looking to see who just farted). Usually at the end a few will say "amen" after the old guy with the accent who just said the prayer for the past 10 minutes finally shuts up.
The question is this: How many times a night do you have to hear elders thank Jehovah for all the blessings when no one has been particularly blessed, for all the wonderful new information when they have just heard the same crap over and over again, and for blessing and protection for the governing body when they've got it pretty good already?
And Memorials... Does the Bible really require a prayer before the meeting, after the meeting, over the crackers and over the wine? Is that really necessary? And do they really have to pass it down every row each time when the attendants can see that no one in that row partook of the first choice? The whole thing is a farce, and yet every year every Jehovah's Witness, even the faders and the barely hangers-on feel like they have to go and sit through the show that is no show.

i didn't know where to posts this, i hope "friends" is ok-.
how did you feel when the book you studied in was deemed "discontinued"?
for instance, when i was studying, i studied the knowledge book.
i give you day 7 of the royal commissions proceedings:.
part 1 has been uploaded and part 2 and 3 will soon be available.. part 1:.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk0lgqedy_i.
my jw spies tell me that the kingdom halls are empty compared to how they used to be, since i left 5 years ago.
not saying they're empty because of me though.. is that what you are hearing?.
I wonder if the RC in Australia will have any impact on some leaving."
The Royal Commission should have wide impact inside Australia and, as we get the word out, around the world.
But the reality is that most Jehovah's Witnesses will block it all out of their minds, will not read any of the transcripts or watch any of the videos. They really do believe that all of this information has been created and distributed by Satan and his minions - so they will give it very little credibility. Even if they do believe it to be an honest appraisal of what is going on in the JW organization, they will not do anything about it. They, like the Governing Body and the New York leadership will just ignore it and give it no notice.
Anyone who has called the New York JW HQ phone number and asked to speak to someone about the Royal Commission investigation will get this response:
"Please hold. I'll transfer you..."
Very bad music.
Very bad music.

"Hello, may I help you? Oh, calling about what? A Royal Commission? Please hold..."

hello people.
the rc will still go ahead with it's live stream on friday 14th august.
however, it seem that it will be a video link.
In case no one has mentioned this yet, the broadcast time has been moved out an hour to 11:00 AM local time (Friday, Sydney, Australia). Thats 1:00 AM UTC (Friday) and 9:00 PM EDT (Thursday).
I'm sure that many of our friends will be capturing the hearing and posting to YouTube before the chickens wake up the next morning.

oz branch coordinator terrence o'brien opined a number of times at about 1:00:00 until about 1:15:00 of his testimony, that a dub does not need to da, they can become "inactive.".
i sent our beloved angus stewart my personal experience, as well as observations about official borg teachings.
(he replied in short order.).
I'm with "disillusioned 2" on this. Leaving quietly by simply not showing up is often the better way assuming that you have a truly loving family and minimal JW friends.
First of all, consider what your family members are really like - and do you really have a close relationship with them. If they don't live in your area, then you have an even better chance to just fade away.
Best circumstance for most fades is (1) close JW family members live more than a day's drive away; (2) consider a move to the other side of town or county, outside the area where your current congregation is located; (3) slowly ease out of meeting attendance. Miss a couple every month and then only attend once a month. Then once every couple of months. You've "been ill, involved with family issues, looking for a new job, etc." - in other words, use "theocratic warfare" against the "theocracy." You will slowly fade from the minds of the other JWs and when you do show up they will usually treat you well and try to get you to attend more meetings. (4) If you get a shepherding call, don't invite them in. "I (we) have been sick (sick of the organization!) and can't invite you in. Thanks for calling. I'll let you know when we are better."
#1 best way to get out is to be like most normal families or friends who rarely call each other, rarely write each other, and rarely see each other because (a) you really can't stand being around them, (b) you have your own friends and interests, (3) you live too far away to just drop in for a quick visit. Send them a card every so often: "Love you. Kids are fine. Been really busy. Been down with the flu. New job is really working me to death. See you when the weather improves (too hot, too cold, too wet, too windy).
Make new non-JW friends who don't care or aren't interested. Better if they are not too religious - religious people can be every bit as obnoxious as JWs. Before long you won't miss your family all that much. You can see them at funerals and weddings.
